| Barry played the role of "Eddie" in a staged reading of: |
| The First Nudie Musical, a new musical based on the hit cult film from the 1970s comes to the stage in a two-night only staged reading as part of the LA Festival of New Musicals. The First Nudie Musical, the film, came out in 1976 to much critical acclaim. It became an instant cult film and it was one of the first films to hit cable TV, where it was hugely successful for many years. Unlike most of the recent film to stage adaptations, Nudie started life as a film musical, so adapting it for the stage seemed to be a natural. The First Nudie Musical has a book by Bruce Kimmel and David Wechter, and music and lyrics by Bruce Kimmel (Kimmel wrote, co-directed, and starred in the film, along with Cindy Williams, Stephen Nathan, and Diana Canova). In addition to the songs from the film, there are eleven new numbers. The staged reading will be directed by Bruce Kimmel, with choreography by Adam Cates. Cason Murphy is producing. Casting will be announced shortly. This free two-night only event took place on June 15 and 16 at 7:30 at the NoHo Arts Center. Early reservations are advised (seating is limited) and can be made by e-mailing nudiemusical@gmail.com or calling 323 599-7343. Broadway's greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written–the perfect escape from life's troubles. Forum takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. The result is a nonstop laugh-fest in which a crafty slave struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan for his young master, in exchange for freedom. A genuinely funny musical comedy you won't want to miss. | Barry reprised a role that he did for Cabrillo Music Theatre 13 years ago; that of "Nathan Detroit " for their production of : |

| Guys and Dolls Presented in the Fred Kavli Theatre Directed by Nick DeGruccio Choreographed by Roger Castellano Musical Direction by Darryl Archibald with Jeff Griggs as Sky Jessica Bernard as Sarah Barry Pearl as Nathan and Alet Taylor as Adelaide October 16 - 25, 2009 Guys are gambling, dolls are dancing, and the audience comes up a winner with the revered GUYS AND DOLLS. Colorful characters abound, as suave Sky Masterston wages a bet on whether he can woo the buttoned up Sister Sarah Brown. Sky makes the bet with shifty Nathan Detroit, who puts the crap game ahead of his long-suffering fiancée, Adelaide, to whom he’s been engaged for 14 years. We’ re going to raise the roof with treasured songs that include Luck Be A Lady, Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat, I’ve Never Been In Love Before, and the title tune. A Tony Award winner for Best Musical, plus three Broadway revivals, GUYS AND DOLLS has spawned a hit movie, with a new film version on the way. Cabrillo Music Theatre delivers a sure bet with its splashy production. Cabrillo will produce this simultaneously with the Broadway production. Recommended for all audiences. | Full Thousand Oaks Acorn Review "All of this comes second nature to Barry Pearl, the show’s Nathan Detroit, a small-time gambler and organizer of “The Oldest Established Floating Crap Game in New York.” Nathan fits Pearl like a shiny pair of spats. It’s obvious that “good old reliable Nathan” is one of Pearl’s favorite roles, and he is superb as he carries out his dice-shooting exploits while dodging the proposals of his marriage-minded fiancee, Miss Adelaide."
